Downlink or “Downloading” more colloquially known is the act of transmitting information from a Transmitter (Alice) to a receiver (Bob)

This specific example is one way and called Simplex and this type of “broadcast” is found in radio and TV Satellite Internet is also Simplex for their downstream information
Uplink
This is colloquially known as “uploading” and is the upload of data from the receiver to the tower typically
A lot of systems actually use different frequencies for uplink and downlink Systems that have communication in both direction are called duplex links Uplink is usually slower for most users as they tend to consume more data than they transmit so more bandwidth is allocated to them
