Optical Spectroscopy
By connecting an optical fibre to the side of the chamber we can measure the wavelengths of light emitted by the plasma, which gives us some information of the reactive gasses as well as the reaction products.
Optical Interferometery
Light reflected fro the etched surface and mask interferes, so the change in intensity of the beam reflection can indicate etch depth if we change layers.
