Abstract
Ethernet itself is a standard method of transmitting information in local area networks. This is type of connection is used not only for personal computers, but is the protocol that connects whole metro areas. The Ethernet protocol works by dividing up a stream of data into shorter pieces called frames. Each frame contains information about the source and destination addresses (MAC address) and error checking data. This means damaged frames can be neglected and in some protocol implementations can trigger retransmission of lost frames. This type of information transmission works on coaxial, phone lines, and optical fibres.
But what about the cables? This cable is called ethernet-over-twisted-pair
General Information
Bandwidth is comparatively low, however due to differential signalling, we can use much higher order modulation formats, which substantially improves the data throughput
Gigabit ethernet for example, tends to be 4 sets of 250Mbps cables which run PAM4 modulation (4 Level Pulse Amplitude Modulation),
