Physical Layer

The Physical Layer is the layer that enables all communication, and consists of the transmission of a raw bitstream,

In general there are two ways to encode data:

  • Baseband Encoding
    • Signal gets directly encoded onto the channel, and occupies a baseband region.
    • Max Bitrate is described by Nyquist’s Theorem
    • Typical used in wired channels.
  • Carrier Modulation
